Preserving the birds of Norway – a meeting arranged by EBP-Nor in collaboration with Sabima and BirdLife Norway

Norith Eckbo, Benedicte Garmann-Aarhus and Martin Eggen (top left image) held presentations for the day's seminar, followed by an illustration and text exhibition by Sine Hadestad and Mari Dønnum Klaussen (bottom right image). Afterwards, there was a panel discussion, with Tara Daughton as host, between Kjetill Jakobsen, Martin Eggen and Norith Eckbo (top right image).

On the 29th August EBP-Nor arranged a very successful event together with Sabima and BirdLife Norway at the University of Oslo, where the day's topic was "How to save the birds in Norway".

This event was open for everyone and drew in a curious crowd, eager to learn about each initiative's efforts to prevent further biodiversity loss and protect birds in Norway.

Martin Eggen, from BirdLife Norway, highlighted the essential role of birds in our lives, while Sabima's Norith Eckbo discussed their environmental conservation work and how important it is to encourage children in taking care of our birds.Benedicite Garmann-Aarhus from EBP-Nor emphasized the significance of whole genome sequencing in preservation, sharing progress in sequencing Norway's birds. So far EBP-Nor has finished sequencing Puffin (Fratercula arctica), Common eider (Somateria mollissima), Bluethroat (Luscinia svecica), White-throated dipper (Cinclus cinclus) and  Common reed warbler (Acrocephalus scirpaceus) (figure 1) and additional 10 species are underway (figure 2).

Later, there was a panel discussion between the three collaboration partners, going further in-depth about the threats the birds face, why we should care and how we can help bring the bird population to what it once was.
